ENERGEX Youth Caucus
Energy is a topic of worldwide concern that should not only be discussed and dealt with by adults but - as part of education towards sustainability - already by young people, i.e. the future generation. For this reason ENERGEX 2008 has integrated a Youth Caucus into its conference programme.
The Youth Caucus is being organised in form of a competition among Austrian secondary schools by "IMST – Innovations in Mathematics, Science and Technology", an initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture. Under the title "IMST – Energy", Austrian students attending the 9th grade or above are invited to submit school projects dealing with the topic "Energy".
The projects should focus on one of the following questions:
A) Technical efficiency in the production & consumption of energyB) Saving energy
C) Transfer of technologies between developed and developing countries
D) Political and social implications of saving, producing and consuming energy
A jury consisting of representatives of IMST as well as of the ENERGEX Scientific Committee will select 5 winning teams and invite them to attend ENERGEX 2008. The winners will be given the opportunity to present their projects on a separate poster wall. In the course of the congress the 5 winning teams will liaise in order to compose a joint Young People’s Declaration/Youth Caucus which will be presented to the audience on the last conference day.
It is the goal of the Youth Caucus to stimulate young people to examine ways to an intelligent exposure to energy and to raise their awareness regarding its implications towards the environment, society and policy.
The projects should be submitted to:Dr. Anna Streissler
